How the halfway point works
The tool computes the midpoint along the great-circle path between your two locations — the same route an airplane would follow. On a local scale that is essentially the straight-line midpoint you'd expect: exactly half the distance from A, half from B.
One honest caveat: a geometric midpoint isn't always the fairest driving midpoint. If a river, a toll road or a mountain range sits between the two places, actual travel times can be lopsided even when the distances on the map are equal. Zoom around the marker to sanity-check the roads (and what's actually there) before you commit to a coffee shop.
What people use it for
- Meeting friends halfway. Two people in different suburbs pick a town near the marker instead of one of them always traveling farther.
- Carpool meeting points. Park-and-ride lots near the midpoint keep both commutes short.
- Road trip stopovers. Split a long drive into two equal legs and search hotels near the pin.
- Custody and co-parenting exchanges. Neutral, verifiable handoff points are easier to agree on when both sides can see the same math.
Getting a meeting spot with things to do
The midpoint lands where it lands — sometimes that's a highway interchange, sometimes a town center. To check what's around it, copy the coordinates shown in the result card and paste them into the search box of the radius map tool, then draw a small circle (1–2 miles) to see the neighborhood at a glance.

Frequently asked questions
Is the halfway point calculated by distance or by time?
By distance — it is the exact geographic midpoint along the straight (great-circle) path. A drive-time-based midpoint needs live road data and is planned for a future version; until then, treat the map midpoint as a strong starting candidate and sanity-check the roads.
Why do the two legs show slightly different distances?
They shouldn't — both legs are half of the same great-circle distance. If the displayed legs look uneven, it's rounding in the label; the marker sits at the true 50/50 point.
Does it work across states or countries?
Yes. Any two points on Earth work, from two cross-town addresses to Los Angeles and Tokyo.
What if the two places are on opposite sides of the world?
The tool warns you when the points are nearly antipodal — infinitely many 'halfway' paths exist then, so no single midpoint makes sense.
